Actvities at StageOne
Comedy
A look at the techniques of comedy greats; what makes them funny, why do we laugh? Always entertaining and often involves a visit from ‘Mr Bean’ somewhere along the line!
Core Skills
This is the essence of stage craft; learn the basics of how to position yourself on stage, how to use your voice, how to understand the part you are playing and add character and bring it to life. Typically the last Tuesday of every month.
Drama In Worship
As a Christian group this is important, but just how do you fit a sketch into a service? How do you make it relevant and not something there just to fill a gap? Find out here.
Improvisation
What happens if it all goes wrong on stage? How do you recover? This will teach you how. We also do some pure improvisation items; although this may seem specialist it really helps improve people’s general acting skills. Typically the last Tuesday of every month, paired with Core Skills.
Inside/Outside
Part of a series of sessions held, looking at what makes the outside the outside. What are characteristics during the day, or at night? How do different areas make you feel? How can these be represented on a stage? These are the type of questions being investigated.
Play Readngs
Play Readings have proved quite a popular part of StageOne’s very varied programme.
In the last 5 years StageOne have read a considerable number of plays including
"The Lark" (Joan of Arc) by Jean Anouilh, "Murder in the Cathedral" by T. S. Eliot,
"Blithe Spirit" by Noël Coward, "An Ideal Husband" by Oscar Wilde, and "Luther" by John Osborne.
One of the great strengths of the play readings has proved to be its enviable age-spread, with experienced and inexperienced readers.
Script Writing
Unless improvisation is the intention, a script is essential. The ability to write scripts allows StageOne to tailor performances to suit the particular event or service being held. We encourage people to write scripts; either for specific events or ‘just because’.
Sketch Acting
A chance to try out the skills being learnt. Take a sketch, look at how it could be performed and try out a performed reading of it. A chance to try out scripts written by members, and see them performed. Typically the second Tuesday of every month.
